After defeating Lareth, the party returned to Hommlet, encountering Calmert who asked for a 10% tithe for the church. Town elders invite the Oneders to a council meeting in two days.
The party pays Jaroo Ashstaff 10,000gp to resurrect Garland. Garland returns, traumatized from his slime experience.
The council asks the party to investigate the strength of The Temple, which is known to be located near Nulb, a den of pirates and thieves.
Taruko and Kobort are seen in town, Kobort wearing Lareth's black plate mail armor. They take public credit for vanquishing the moat-house denizens.
Elmo leaves the party, with urgent business elsewhere.
The party leaves for Nulb. They encounter a merchant caravan of rugs and fabrics from Dyvers.
Arriving in Nulb, the party buys a round of drinks for the house at the Hostel. Dick Renstch, the owner, asks them what brings them to town. Tompkins makes a story up about being big game hunters. There is a miscommunication, resulting in the party being invited to participate in heisting a merchant caravan due to be through in several days time. The party declines, raising suspicions.
The party breifly visits Mother Screng's herb shop, where Hruda (mother Screng is out) urgest he Oneders to keep a lower profile.
The party departs Nulb for the Temple. The road is not hidden. They are watched by ravens which circle overhead.
Arriving at the temple, the party is attacked by a horde of giant rats, but fends them off.
Exploring the temple perimeter, the party discovers an intact tower, which they storm by force. A massive battle ensues between the Oneders and a group of brigands. in which the party emerges victorious by the skin of their teeth. The party camps in the tower for the night.
